FCCLA Qualifies 4 Teams to Nationals !

(contributed by Cheryl Uceny, FCCLA Club Adviser)

The Washington State Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Conference was a huge success for the students who competed.  Our chapter had five teams compete with their community service projects in several different categories.  Our youngest competitors, three sixth graders: Leah Pemberton, Annie Stickney and Maggie Uceny, presented their project on The Great American Bake Sale.  They held bake sales to raise money to donate to stop childhood hunger.  While they earned a silver medal, our chapter is very proud of their performance, they competed against Freshmen in high school.  The other four teams earned gold medals and will be representing the State of Washington in Chicago this July.  Two middle school students, Rachel Baker and Madi Wilson won top honors with their project “PB’s Little Hands”.  Mallori Allphin and Michael Dorhman will represent in community service manual with their mother son, father daughter dance.  Edgar Borges and Mackenzie Forman competed in illustrated talk and earned top honors.  Senior Morgan Uceny qualified for nationals for the sixth year in a row.  This year she will be competing with her project on Shaken Baby Syndrome.

In addition to the competition, Kittitas FCCLA will be receiving a national award for the project the middle school Family and Consumer Science Classes completed titled Coyote Career Connection.  Middle school students researched about a chosen career and created booths for elementary students to visit in a career fair held in conjunction with CWU Health Education students Health Fair.  The award will be presented at the national conference with a cash award of $500.00.

They chapter is busy fundraising for their trip.  Please plan to attend the 5th annual K-town Has Talent May 6th, cost is $2.00.  They will also be pre-selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts by the dozen.  The annual rummage sale has yet to be scheduled.   We will keep our community posted with our reader board and web page.
