Coyote Parents, Staff and Students,

I hope you all have enjoyed a wonderful fall season as we prepare to transition into winter.  I have truly enjoyed my first two months at Kittitas Secondary.  Meeting and developing relationships with staff, students and parents, as well as getting to know the culture of the school and community has been exciting and revitalizing for me personally.

I appreciate all the parental support for our November Student Led Conferences.  We believe taking the opportunity to come in and have your student present their portfolio to be a valuable experience that helps bridge the communication gap between school and home.  Student led conferences are a requirement at Kittitas Secondary.  Any student not making their scheduled conference this past week will be asked to reschedule their conference in the next week or two.

An issue that has been a major concern for schools and districts across our nation is in regards to cell phone use, specifically texting, and the disruption it brings to the educational process.  At Kittitas Secondary, our staff has established a cell phone policy which prohibits students from having cell phones out or on during school hours while on campus (including lunch).  Students who feel they have an emergency which warrants the use of their cell phone must get permission from their teacher or administrator if using the cell phone during the school day.  Parents who wish to contact their student during regular school hours are encouraged to call the main office so we can notify your student accordingly.  We appreciate the support from parents and students as we work to maintain and optimum learning environment.

I want to take a moment to thank everyone in the Coyote family who participated in our first school-wide, magazine drive fundraiser.  We were able to raise over $2,600.00 to help off-set the costs and expenses of middle and high school athletics at Kittitas.  Although happy with this inaugural fund raising event, we will continue to have conversations around ways we can financially help support our athletic programs; we hope to double or triple the amount raised next year.

Thanks again to everyone who continue to make Kittitas the best secondary school in the valley!

Feel  free to contact me or the Kittitas Secondary office staff if you have any questions or concerns (509) 968-3902.
